Owlet Cottage ADU

RESIDENTIAL

The Owlet Cottage is a 600sf ADU built adjacent to the property’s main house. Named after the native screech owls that have been nesting on the property for years, this home was designed with an open floor plan and expansive windows to take in the majestic Oaks surrounding the cottage. A large deck extends the living space to the outside, connecting the interior with its natural surroundings.

The compact structure is a 1BR/1BA with vaulted ceilings and filled with natural light.

Located in a charming neighborhood, the Owlet is walking distance to downtown Ojai. Tucked at the back of the property and nestled under a canopy of oaks, the home is private making the cottage feel like a peaceful retreat.

Sol Haus Design worked meticulously with the owners, Seal and Scott Graeber, and the general contractor, Tyler Turner, to embody sustainability in all aspects. We have come to call The Owlet “the little house that Ojai built” as many of the tradesmen and craftsmen live in very close proximity of the project site, thereby supporting the local economy and businesses in town.

The house was built with fire-resistant materials: metal roofing, cement board siding and composite decking. Energy efficiency was considered in every decision (ie: dual pane windows, water-wise fixtures and Energy Star appliances).

The result is a modern, efficient cottage with old-world charm. A cozy nest for nature lovers who relish their privacy, but can quickly engage with their community by meandering out the front gate and into the delightful hamlet of Ojai.
